If you're looking for a Sortly alternative, you're probably happy with barcode scanning and inventory tracking. The problem is usually somewhere else: item limits, user limits, pricing as your catalog grows, or features that don't match the way your team actually works.
HomyScan is designed for small businesses that want to track tools, equipment, consumables and stock without paying more every time the inventory grows.

Sortly defines a unique item as an item entry, SKU, material, piece of equipment or product line. Increasing the quantity of the same entry does not increase the unique-item count.
The practical difference
Imagine a maintenance company with two employees, 3,500 spare-part references, 200 individually tracked tools and four storage locations. The company is small, but its inventory is not.
With HomyScan, the number of item records does not determine the paid plan. With Sortly, 3,500 unique items exceed the Advanced and Ultra allowances, so the company would need to compare against Premium even though it only has two users.
Now imagine a company with 1,200 items, technicians working in poor-connectivity areas, scheduled equipment servicing, purchase-order approvals and QuickBooks Online. Sortly is likely the better fit. Its higher plan pays for workflows HomyScan does not currently provide.
HomyScan gives small teams more room for the core inventory job. Sortly covers more of the surrounding operation.
Sortly pricing and inventory limits
At the time this page was checked, Sortly Free included 100 unique items and one user; Advanced included 500 items and two users; Ultra included 2,000 items and five users; Premium included 5,000 items and eight users; Enterprise started at 10,000 items and 12 users.
Monthly prices were $49 for Advanced, $149 for Ultra and $299 for Premium. New annual subscriptions showed a 50% first-year promotion, with monthly equivalents of $24, $74 and $149. Sortly states that the annual discount becomes 20% after the first year.

Where HomyScan makes more sense
You have a large catalog and a small crew
HomyScan's paid plans do not limit the number of items. Adding another rack of parts or batch of labelled tools does not require a higher plan.
Your starting point is an Excel file
Import an Excel or CSV file, map your existing columns and keep working from the list you already maintain. Then scan manufacturer barcodes or custom QR labels, adjust quantities, transfer stock and check equipment in and out from a phone.
More than one person needs to update inventory
HomyScan Light supports up to three members. Pro is intended for larger teams and adds the controls needed to manage access.
You do not need purchasing or maintenance management
HomyScan concentrates on quantities, tools, assets, locations, vans, jobsites, scanning, transfers, check-outs, low-stock monitoring and movement history. It does not attempt to handle purchasing approvals, maintenance calendars or accounting integrations.
Where Sortly is stronger
Your team works without a reliable connection
Sortly supports offline mobile access and synchronizes updates when a connection returns. HomyScan currently requires a connection.
You need reminders tied to dates
Sortly offers alerts for maintenance, repairs, warranties, expiration dates and servicing. HomyScan's alerts are based on stock levels.
Purchasing happens inside the inventory system
Sortly's higher plans include purchase orders, approval statuses, vendor details, receiving and automatic inventory updates. It also offers pick lists.
You need integrations
Sortly lists QuickBooks Online, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Amazon Business, webhooks and an API, with availability depending on the plan. HomyScan is currently more self-contained.
Reporting is central to the operation
Sortly has a broader catalog covering inventory summaries, user activity, low stock, movements, item flow and saved reports.
HomyScan and Sortly both cover the basics
Both support importing inventory, organizing items and locations, item photos, barcode and QR scanning, quantities, low-stock thresholds, equipment check-outs and team activity.
HomyScan optimizes for straightforward inventory, broad item capacity and accessible team participation. Sortly extends further into purchasing, offline work, scheduled alerts, integrations and reporting.
Which product costs less?
Three users and 300 items
HomyScan Light supports three members and unlimited items. Sortly Advanced supports two user licences and 500 unique items, so the third user may affect the plan or seat configuration.
Two users and 3,000 unique items
HomyScan Light still fits the item count. Sortly would require a plan above Ultra.
Five users, 1,500 items and purchase orders
HomyScan Pro may cost less, but it does not provide purchase orders. Sortly Ultra includes five users, 2,000 items and purchase orders. The cheapest product is the least expensive one that still does the job.
Choose HomyScan when
- You run a small field, maintenance, office or nonprofit team.
- Your inventory contains many item records.
- You want to import an existing spreadsheet.
- Employees need to scan and update items from phones.
- Predictable pricing matters.
- Purchasing and scheduled maintenance remain in other systems.
Choose Sortly when
- Employees regularly work without internet access.
- Maintenance, warranty or expiration reminders are required.
- You want purchase orders and pick lists inside inventory.
- Integrations or detailed reporting matter.
- You need an API, webhooks or enterprise onboarding.
Is HomyScan really a Sortly alternative?
Yes, for the overlapping inventory use cases. HomyScan can replace Sortly when the core requirement is maintaining a catalog, scanning from phones, monitoring quantities, organizing locations, tracking tools, recording check-outs and involving a small team.
It is not a feature-for-feature replacement. A company relying on Sortly's offline access, maintenance alerts, purchase orders, pick lists or integrations would lose those workflows by switching today.
How to test the right product
- Import 20 to 50 real items.
- Add the warehouse, vans, rooms or jobsites your team uses.
- Invite the employees who actually move inventory.
- Scan stock in and out.
- Check one piece of equipment out and return it.
- Let an item reach its minimum quantity.
- Review the history at the end of the test.
Then ask whether the crew updated it without being chased, whether the manager found items quickly, whether the plan covered the full inventory, and which missing feature caused a real problem.
Frequently asked questions
Is HomyScan cheaper than Sortly?
For a small team with many unique items, HomyScan can be substantially less expensive because its paid plans do not limit item records. Sortly may provide better value when offline access, purchase orders, maintenance alerts, integrations or advanced reporting are required.
Does Sortly limit inventory items?
Yes. Sortly limits unique items according to the plan. At the time of this comparison, allowances ranged from 100 on Free to 5,000 on Premium, with 10,000 or more on Enterprise. Quantities of the same unique item do not increase the count.
Can both apps scan QR codes and barcodes?
Yes. HomyScan and Sortly both support barcode and QR-code scanning from phones.
Does HomyScan work offline?
No. HomyScan currently needs an internet connection to update shared inventory. Sortly provides offline mobile access and synchronizes updates after reconnecting.
Does HomyScan have purchase orders?
No. HomyScan tracks stock levels and can show when items are low, but it does not currently create or approve purchase orders. Sortly offers purchase orders on Ultra, Premium and Enterprise.
Can I move from Excel to either product?
Yes. Both HomyScan and Sortly support inventory imports from spreadsheets.
Which one is better for tool tracking?
Both can track tools, locations and check-outs. HomyScan suits small teams with many labelled tools, while Sortly is stronger when offline access, scheduled servicing, deeper reporting or integrations are required.
